Leased equipment requires the proper utilities to be successful. Utility requirements depend on the make and model of your equipment and manufactures recommendations. These specifications are provided during onboarding and can also be found on the manufacturer’s website. See our general requirements and recommendations below.
Electrical
Voltage and amperage requirements ultimately depend on the make and model of the machine. Below are general requirements and recommendations for new construction.
General Requirements
Dedicated Circuit
Dedicated Disconnect within 6 ft
NON-GFCI Outlet
For new construction we recommend installing a dedicated four wire circuit (2 load, 1 neutral, 1 ground) using 10 AWG wires rated for 30 amps. Breaker and receptacle type can be easily modified to accommodate most 220v equipment.
Ice Machines: Recommended Voltage & Amperage
110V Equipment
20amp grounded circuit.
An additional outlet on receptacle cannot be used by another device.
220V Equipment
Ice Machine 0-1,200lbs per day
220v/20amp circuit
Single phase circuit, 20 or 30 amps
Ice Machine producing 1,200lbs+ per day
220v/30amp circuit
Three phase circuit, 30 or 40 amps
Plumbing
For Ice machines, below are general requirements, which ultimately depend on the make and model of your equipment. Refer to the spec sheet provided by our sales team for equipment-specific details.
Drainage
Floor Drain or Floor Sink (*preferred) within 6 feet of machine.
Drains should be recessed in the floor, or at floor level.
Minimum Diameter: 3”
Terminated 1” above sewer
Wall Drain
Minimum Diameter: 2” at PVC, 4” bell at collection
P-Trap is required for wall drains with sewer connections.
If drainage is more than 6 feet from the machine, a drain pump may be required.
Pumps
The equipment below may be required and is not included in Empire’s leasing program.
Backflow Preventer
Condensate Pump
Water Pressure Reducer
Supply Line
A dedicated water supply line with a shutoff valve and outlet connection is required for ice machines. For new construction, we recommend installing a ¾" water line with a ball valve and ½" FPT outlet.
Ultimately, line size equipment depends on the make and model of the ice machine.
See our general recommendations below:
Ice Machines 0-800 lbs/day
Minimum water flow: 3 GPM
Water line size: 3/8”
Ice Machines 800lbs+/day
Minimum water flow: 5 GPM
Water Line Size: ½"
Water Quality
Water Pressure must be 15-45 PSIG.
Water pressure below 15 PSIG or above 45 PSIG may require a plumber to resolve with a water pressure reducer or water boost pump.
Water Temperature should be between 40-70 degrees F.
High Mineral Content in Water “Hard Water” may require additional cleanings, filtration systems, or a water softener to improve and optimize the functioning of the equipment.
